Overseas institutions 'have healthy appetite for British mortgages abroad'
Wednesday, 18 January 2012 09:51:33 GMT

Financial services provider Conti has said that overseas institutions still have a 'healthy appetite' for foreign mortgages, despite the economic climate in the UK.Added to this confidence in British buyers, it has also been revealed that interest rates are at a historical low and house prices continue to get cheaper, making it easier and more affordable to get a mortgage for overseas property.According to Clare Nessling, a director at Conti: "There are plenty of British buyers taking advantage of the property bargains available abroad and they’re more willing to explore overseas opportunities in their search for better potential returns on investment than they’re achieving in the UK."According to PrimeLocation.com, there was a significant increase in searches for overseas property in Q2 and Q3 2011. The US saw the most significant increase, with 31 per cent more searches in Q2 and Q3. Spain and France remained the most popularly searched destinations, with Italy, Portugal, Cyprus and Switzerland also ranking high. For more information on purchasing currency for regular or one-off payments, visit our Personal FX site
